The details
There are 3 different experiences you can choose from:
- Our cat carnivore experience which involves as many of our biggest cats that we can (cheetah, maybe puma or leopard etc.). One hour in duration. £150.00 for 1 participant or £280.00 for two. Maximum or two people.
- Our dog carnivore experience which again incudes as many of our bigger dogs as we can (maned or grey wolves, possibly painted dogs) and always a visit to our dingo’s. One hour in duration. £150.00 for 1 participant or £280.00 for two. Maximum or two people.
- A morning combined carnivore experience that lasts for twice as long as either of the “just” cat or dog experiences. This may also include some of our more unique Mustelids (badgers & martens) as well as our cats & dogs! Two hours in duration. £210.00 for 1 participant or £350.00 for two. Maximum or two people.
Get as close as a whisker to a Leopard or Puma or maybe enjoy the interaction of our Australian dingo’s.
The experience will start with an introduction from the zoo owners or the curator where any Health & Safety issues will be discussed and your host keeper introduced. They will discuss with you over a cup of tea or coffee how Exmoor Zoo works with other zoos and the conservation projects we support and then you will be given a quick tour of the zoo kitchens and you will be off on your experience with your host keeper.
This experience will be 60 minutes or more in duration so do not forget to bring your camera.
While we will try to accommodate your preferences, we cannot guarantee your specified choice. After your experience you are free to wander around the zoo for the rest of the day. All participants will get a personalised certificate of participation.
General to all of the above:
- Meet the team and find out much more about how the zoo operates, how zoos work closely together not only across the country, but across the world. Hear all about the conservation projects we support because we all strongly believe these animals should stay where they so rightly belong, in the wild.
- Time and circumstances permitting you may be able to help the keepers with some of our other cats and dogs not listed below. We will try to accommodate your preferences although we cannot guarantee your specified choice. We also cannot tell you in advance which specific carnivores will be participating as we always put their needs first and will not bother an animal who does not wish to join in the fun.
- After your experience (about an hour on the cat or dog experiences and two hours on the combined morning experience), you are free to wander around the zoo for the rest of the day.
You are welcome to bring guests along to watch you take part in your experience, although the normal admission fees will apply.
Activities may be subject to change on the day due to welfare or operational factors.
The programme of activities is dependent on the capability of the participants, however, where it is possible, reasonable adjustment will be made to try to ensure that the experience is open to all.
We cannot guarantee your chosen animal will be available on the day of your visit, if an animal doesn’t want to play we will not make them.
We want you to have a safe and enjoyable experience; all participants must abide by the health and safety regulations of Exmoor Zoo.
You will not share activities with other participants; this is your personal experience.
Animals/activities you may be able to interact with on these experiences:
- Dingo: feed by hand and interact with Boots & Stella
- Maned wolf: just be inside their enclosure with the tallest wild dog in the world and appreciate the majesty and grace of this unique animal while hiding some of their food
- Bat eared fox; appreciate their unique anatomy (ears and nose) and feed them locusts
- Leopard: place food in her main house and witness from within the safety corridor their power and majesty (we often spice things up here)
- Cheetah: feed our two sisters by hand through the wire and understand why this is the fastest mammal alive in the world today
- Caracal: feed our caracals either in their main house or on the jump pole and get within a whisker to our caracal brothers in the safety corridor
- Puma: feed our puma Fhu in their den and remain within a whisker of their breath in the safety corridor while they feed
- Sand cat: Place their food in their Egyptian enclosure and remain is with them while “Fred & Roche” retrieve and eat their meal.
- Painted dog: Hide food and scent with spices an area in their outside enclosure and watch from the external safety porch as they use their smell to find the hidden food.
- Honey badger: Hide their morning meal outside in the external enclosure and enjoy watching as they use their intelligence to find where you have hidden their breakfast.
