Are you passionate about wildlife? Would you like to get up close and personal with exotic animals? Would you like to find out more about the animals here at the Zoo? Then the Exmoor Zoo Walk on the wild side experience can make this a reality!
The details
Walk on the wild side experience gives you an exclusive VIP guided tour with one of the senior zoo staff, who will introduce you to a range of the zoo’s inhabitants and ensure that you experience them in a very special way.
The walk lasts from 2 to 3 hours and can take place on any day of the week either on opening at 10.00am or in the afternoon at 1.00pm, however only one walk can take place on any one day. Zoo walkers will get to see and understand the development and history of the zoo as the special animals are discussed and their reasons for being here as part of the worldwide breeding programmes.
Dates are allocated on a first come basis. Animals encountered vary depending upon season and animal health and welfare, but may include just some of these, sand cats, binturong, lemurs, tapir, ground hornbills and cheetah.
Your hosting zoo keeper will take photographs as you walk the zoo and these will be put onto a CD which will be sent to you in the post after the experience.
Walkers will need to wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear and are welcome to bring their own camera equipment. The Zoo will need to be informed in advance if a member of your party has any special needs. Please phone to discuss your arrangements.
The experience will start with an introduction from the zoo owners or the curator where any Health & Safety issues will be discussed and your walking host keeper introduced. They will discuss with you over a cup of tea or coffee how Exmoor Zoo works with other zoos and the conservation projects we support.
To maintain the intimate nature of the experience, numbers are strictly limited (maximum of 5). This activity enables a family with younger children to participate in meeting and experiencing some of the zoos animals more personally and is your personal experience (it is never shared).
To walk alone, participants must be aged 17 years or over. A responsible adult must accompany participants under the age of 16; this will be charged for as a couple (£135).
Adults accompanying children are fully responsible for supervision of the young person for the duration of the experience. Due to the activities involved in this experience some of these may not be available to children under the age of 7.
