Planning your snacks & lunch

You have the option to eat with us here at the zoo’s African Café & conservatory Tea rooms, or you are welcome to bring your own food with you to eat in our designated picnic areas.

The African Café

The African Café & conservatory Tea rooms seat approximately 130 people. The seating is conveniently located at the entrance and exit to the zoo.

The café opens at 10.00am for drinks and snacks. Hot food service begins at 11.30 – 2.30pm.

Take away food and drinks are available and an outside open-air patio (which offers cool summer shade under grape vines and wisteria) is nearby that can seat another 30 people around circular picnic benches.

Baby chairs are available. The eating areas are accessible for wheelchair users, as well as push chairs.

Seasonal Menu

  • Our Ham is produced and cured locally.
  • Our 4oz Beef burger is from local National Park farmers.
  • We only use Tuna that is from sustainable sources.
  • All our takeaway boxes, tubs and wooden cutlery are recyclable.
  • Our takeaway containers are fully biodegradable.
  • All our Tea and Coffee is fairly traded.
  • Only vegetable oil is used in our cooking and is recycled.

Picnic areas

The zoo has several picnic areas. You are more than welcome to bring your own picnic lunches. An undercover picnic area is situated next to the playground and can be served by the Snack Shack in main summer school holiday term times.
